The Wenholz House is already providing housing and living quarters for individuals that posses a strong desire for reintegration into our local community.  Historically, with substance abuse recovery, people who were in recovery felt the need to stay with one another to offer support, stay sober, and continue working on their program. Halfway houses had been the “patient's” way of seeking aftercare, which had never been a part of treatment program. Halfway houses were generally not an entrepreneurial enterprise, but a means for persons with a common desire for sobriety to support one another. Sometimes an individual simply owned a home and opened it up to others with who they had been in recovery with, and it became a landlord-tenant relationship.  In the past, there had been concerns from neighborhoods that had seen strangers in their area, more traffic in and out of the houses, and a general feeling of uncertainty.

It is our sincere desire to change the voracity of the “halfway house” image. We strive to allow an individual to develop a strong foundation of self-interest, resulting in a desire to achieve a higher standard of living, and exercise a positive attitude as he or she continues to grow in a productive role for the betterment of our society.          Our target populations are recovering alcoholics and addicts who have an understanding of their addiction and a commitment to recovery

Our goals are to explore and address the individual's behaviors or risk factors that appear to be related to substance use, and to assist the individual in recognizing the harmful consequences of substance use.  The expected outcome is to prevent and eliminate the use of harmful substances, and regain a higher and more meaningful place in our society.

Currently, our service is limited to a men’s facility.  However, our long-range goal is to create women’s facility that reflects the same philosophy and care that will guide women back into our communities, and again provide a strong foundation of self-interest resulting in a desire to achieve a higher standard of living.

The estimated financial requirements are ($5,000 per apartment, 8 apartments total) to complete building renovations for The Wenholz House men’s facility.   These funds will be expended on building renovation and facility contents.  With the proper funding, The Wenholz House men’s facility will be completed within the next three to six months.   The Wenholz House is also in need of Community Kitchen renovations and appliances ($10,000). For donations of $5,000 or more, the apartment will be named in honor of company/individual donating money.
